How to print a PDF as a poster, step by step

Poster splits a page across several A4, A3, or Letter sheets to glue together after printing, without any loss of quality.

  1. Drop in the PDF to enlarge

Drag the file onto the drop area, or click to browse for it. The document’s page count appears.

  2. Choose which page to enlarge, if the document has more than one

“A single page” asks for its number; “All pages” enlarges each one separately.

  3. Set the sheet format and orientation

Choose A4, A3, or Letter, then portrait or landscape for the resulting sheets.

  4. Define the poster size

“By scale” accepts a percentage from 100% to 1000%; “By number of sheets” sets the sheet count across and down directly.

  5. Adjust the overlap and the marks

The overlap between sheets, in millimetres, is there to glue them after cutting. Cutting marks and each sheet’s letter-number label make assembly easier, visible in the preview before you start.

  6. Click “Generate the poster”

VellumPDF splits the enlarged page into one sheet per grid cell, without ever turning the content into an image: quality does not degrade, even at 1000%.

An overlap too large for the chosen sheet format blocks the generation — reduce it to continue.

Frequently asked questions

How do I print a PDF as a poster across several A4 sheets?

Drop in the PDF, choose the sheet format (A4, A3 or Letter) and its orientation, then set the poster size — by scale or by the number of sheets you want. VellumPDF enlarges the page and splits the result into that many sheets, ready to print and assemble.

How do I choose the poster size: by scale or by a grid of sheets?

Both modes are available. In scale mode, you set an enlargement percentage and the number of sheets needed follows from it. In grid mode, you state directly how many sheets you want across and down, and the scale is calculated so the page fills them as well as possible.

What is the overlap between sheets for?

Each pair of neighbouring sheets shares a common strip, whose width is adjustable in millimeters. This overlap zone leaves room to align and glue the sheets together after cutting, without losing content at the join.

What do labels like A1, A2 or B1 on each sheet mean?

They mark the sheet’s position in the assembly grid — the letter for the column, the number for the row — so the poster can be reassembled in the right order without confusion, especially with many sheets.

Does the poster lose quality compared with the original PDF?

No, the source page is repositioned at the chosen scale without being turned into an image: text and vector artwork stay crisp at any print size, unlike an enlargement made from a screenshot.
