How to rotate a PDF, step by step

Rotating turns a document’s pages in 90-degree steps, either all of them or only the ones you choose.

  1. Drop in the PDF to rotate

    Drag the file onto the drop area, or click to browse for it. A thumbnail appears for every page.

  2. Choose the rotation angle

    Three options are offered: 90 degrees one way, 180 degrees, or 90 degrees the other way. The chosen angle adds to whatever rotation the page already has, rather than replacing it.

  3. Specify which pages are affected

    Click the thumbnails of the pages you want, or fill in the “Pages to rotate” field: empty for the whole document, or a range such as “1-3, 5, 8-10”. The “Pages affected” filter then limits the rotation to portrait, landscape, even or odd pages, and a line shows how many pages will be rotated.

  4. Click “Apply rotation”

    VellumPDF saves the new orientation in the document without redrawing the pages: text stays text, and images keep their resolution.

The “Apply rotation” button stays disabled until at least one valid page is targeted; an empty field targets the whole document by default.

Frequently asked questions

How do I rotate a PDF that was scanned upside down or at an angle?

Choose an angle of 90, 180 or 270 degrees: the rotation applies instantly in the browser and the resulting file is ready to download.

Can I rotate only some pages instead of the whole document?

Yes: click the thumbnails of the pages you want, or type a range in “Pages to rotate”. The “Pages affected” filter further limits the rotation to portrait, landscape, even or odd pages, which helps when a scan mixes orientations.

Is rotating a PDF free and does it avoid sending the file to a server?

Yes, the operation is local and free, with nothing sent to a server.

Does rotation change the page content?

No, only its orientation. VellumPDF reads the angle already stored in the PDF and adds the one you choose; the content is not redrawn. Text stays text, and images keep their resolution.

How do you choose which pages to rotate?

By clicking the thumbnails, or in the “Pages to rotate” field: the two stay in sync. The “Pages affected” filter (“All”, “Portrait only”, “Landscape only”, “Even”, “Odd”) combines with that selection, and a line shows how many pages will be rotated before you apply.

Do rotations add up if I apply the tool twice?

Yes, modulo 360 degrees. Two quarter turns make a half turn, and four bring the page back to where it started. That helps when correcting a scan page by page.
