How to sign a PDF, step by step
A signature drawn on screen is embedded as an image on the page of your choice, directly in your browser.
Drop in the PDF you want to sign
Drag the file onto the drop area or click to choose it.
Draw your signature
Trace it with a mouse, finger, or stylus in the box provided, in black or blue; “Clear” starts over, “Confirm signature” only becomes active once a stroke has been drawn. You can also choose “Type” or “Import an image” under “How to get your signature”.
Place it on the page
Choose the page and the signature’s width (10 to 60% of the page width), then click where you want it on the preview to position it; “Start over” goes back to the previous step. “Where to sign” also offers “All pages” and “Chosen pages”; “Add the date” writes today’s date under the signature.
Click “Apply and download”
The signature is embedded on the chosen page, and the signed file downloads.
When the file is opened, the last page of the document is shown by default for placement, not the first: change pages if your signature needs to go elsewhere.

How do you sign a PDF without printing or scanning it?
Draw your signature on screen with a mouse, a finger or a stylus, type your name, or import the image of a scanned signature (under “How to get your signature”), then place it where you want on the page. The signed file is produced directly, without printing or scanning.
Does this signature carry the same legal weight as a qualified electronic signature?
No. This is a handwritten signature drawn on screen and embedded into the document’s image, not a qualified electronic signature under Switzerland’s ZertES or the EU’s eIDAS regulation, which rely on a certificate issued by a recognized provider. For a transaction that requires a qualified signature, this tool is not sufficient.
Is the signed document sent to a server?
No, the signature is embedded into the file directly in your browser, with no upload to an external server, and the tool is free.
Can this tool place my signature on every page of the document at once?
Yes. Under “Where to sign”, “All pages” places the same signature in the same position on every page — the initials on each page of a contract — and “Chosen pages” limits it to the pages you list. The “Add the date” box writes today’s date in small type under the signature.
What’s the difference between this tool and “Sign with a certificate”?
Here, your drawn signature is embedded as a plain image on the page, with no cryptographic value. “Sign with a certificate” uses the same drawing gesture but places it inside a PAdES signature computed from your .p12/.pfx certificate — an advanced, verifiable electronic signature, not just an image.
Does the cream-colored background of the drawing canvas end up in the final PDF?
No, only the stroke of your signature is kept: the image is cropped to its outline and rebuilt with a fully transparent background before being placed on the page.
